Veil Design Studio was started in 2009 by Laura Thapthimkuna and Alstaire Del Rosario and Laura Thapimkuna are emerging Chicago Designers. Both are former interns of renowned fiber artist Nick Cave, recently featured in September Vogue (2010). Alstaire is a fashion designer and conceptual fiber artist that has showed his installations in several galleries around Chicago. Laura is a costume designer and experimental fashion designer that has showed her work at Gamma Player in a solo exhibit and The Chicago Creative Lounge. Together they combine their strengths and visions to make Veil. Alistaire's ability to transform the surfaces of fabric by adding texture with a variety of materials; ink, thread and beads mixed with Laura's experience in structural manipulation of clothing through designing beyond the traditional silhouette is what gives "Veil" it's edge and sets it apart from other ready to wear lines.

The name Veil in history is defined as something that is intended to cover the body but at the same time show honor to an object or space.- This is why we chose the name, we don't simply want to cover the body we want to do so in a way that shows our love of creating clothes as well.

The first Veil collection debuted at Gamma Player, a designer boutique located in Chicago specializing in new and emerging designers from Europe and Asia. Laura and Alstaire were honored to be the only American designers showcased at the unique retail space, being sold alongside designers such as Alexander McQueen and Hussien Chalayan.

VEIL 2010

Veil's 2010 collection was inspired by existance of repressed memories and amnesia. Alstaire and Laura set out to visualize what memories would look like in a physical form through high concept textile design and draping.
